An Avocado and a Chevy - A complicated, complex relationship
Relationships Matter
He added: “We depend on each other in many ways. More than Trump imagines.”
This quote sums up the danger presented. Not just with Mexico, but with everything.
There is great interconnectedness. The interconnectedness is the huge source for America's soft power in the world. These connections and relationships were not built overnight - Mexican avocados do not magically appear in the grocery store - their availability is the result of complex relationships.
There is a system of growing avocados that are suitable for the US foreign market.
There is a complex system of relationships which allow the money to flow that makes it possible - think how many different people must get paid from this transaction.
There is a system of relationships that allow these fragile fruits to be transported to the grocery store - think of all the hands involved in getting them here. Very complex systems - systems are relationships - allow this one fruit to enter our diet.
From a very real and practical perspective, we are all connected. When one area or group or country or race is hurt, we are all hurt. This is froo froo stuff to many and fair enough in general, philosophical terms but I see things in pragmatic, measurable ways. One can spend five minutes considering the simple avocado we may eat today to know that very complex systems make possible everything we do.
If you'd care to play for a moment, consider the avocado; then consider the Ford and Chevy and Dodge vehicles on Mexican highways. How many American jobs were involved in placing that truck on a Mexican highway - and those are very well paid jobs in skilled work, like engineering and union assembly. Mexico could drive cars made in China - China can make cars too. It would take a long time and lots of work for Mexico to build the relationships needed to use Chinese cars but once they were established, there is no reason to think they would last while US car sales languish.
Chopping off which appendage would make your body more healthy? None, right? Beneficial relationships are the same - why would anyone attack good, healthy relationships between neighbors? Obviously it pleases Russia and our other enemies when America, America's allies and American relationships are harmed. How can it benefit America for our president to throw fuel on our allies around the world and to light them afire? Have no doubt, this is what our president and the Republicans who support him are doing - in a multitude of fronts. He is torching America as fast as possible -
Your House member can be one of the required number referring this man for trial before the Senate. How can you, how can we, help our members of Congress come to the new decision that abiding Trump is no longer sustainable.
Want proof of the idea? Take a hammer and smash your tiniest toe - not really bad, but enough to kill the nail and to create blood under the nail. And then observe how that tiny little toe, not ever really thought about before. can impeded or even stop progress in all other areas. And if that bloody, smashed up tiny toenail is not tended to properly but instead is left to fester and swell and to get red and to then send little red lines up the foot to one's heart, then the situation is trending towards a fatal conclusion. This is ridiculous - no one (I hope) will stupidly smash their toe; one of us smashing our toe until it bleeds is a tiny event compared to the intentional burning of relationships between friends and neighbors. OK, so one of us is stupid enough to smash their toe - how long will it take to heal?
Smash a relationship and see how long that will take to heal.
