Moscow Eddy, Republican Pipe Dreamer

While picking oysters a few weeks ago the boat drifted out of the side creek and into the river - the tide was still falling strong. After a few seconds I noticed the boat was going the 'wrong' way - we were headed back up along the bank opposite the direction of the ocean.

Watching the Trump Russia news makes me think of that moment. As the masses of water (6 to 8 feet, twice a day) pour toward the ocean and back the strong current creates many flow patterns including one called an eddy, which is a circular flow. If the tide is rolling east to the sea, inside an eddy is water flowing west as part of the circular nature of the eddy. One could measure the speed of this westward flowing water and then measure the eastward flow of the main current.

Without context, a comparison of these two measurements could result in confused ideas. Is east right or is west right? 'I say west, prove me wrong' - this is where the Republicans are - they very, very, very much do not want this to have happened and many are in complete denial.

Their hopes are as futile as hoping the ephemeral currents of an eddy will carry the boat upstream.

The tide is going to flow; the Djinn is not returning to the bottle. And it can't - what has happened and is happening is that our nation's security has been imperiled through a treasonous conspiracy with Russia, America's most dangerous adversary. If you have the chance to bet on the tide versus any other force on Earth, choose the tide. And close in certainty to the regularity and power of the tide is that this investigation will continue. Enough already is public to make it damning - asking Russia to steal private communications and then the public use of those stolen communications at least 168 times is a single example. There may be little flutters - energetic eddies, if you will - but the tide is rolling in one direction only and it's not close to turning.
